3D model description

The Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi is an equestrian sculpture in honor of this personality located in the Plaza Italia, in the neighborhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was made by the Italian sculptor Eugenio Maccagnani and inaugurated in 1904.

Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807 - 1882) was an Italian military man and politician. As a young man, he joined the Carboneria, a patriot society of revolutionary Italians, and had to flee Italy after a failed insurrection attempt. He contributed to the independence of Uruguay, serving in the Italian Legion in the Uruguayan Civil War, and later returned to Italy as a commander in the conflicts of the Risorgimento. He has been nicknamed the "Hero of the Two Worlds", in tribute to his military expeditions in South America and Europe.

It was donated to Argentina by the Italian community of that country. National Law No. 3514 of September 21, 1897 authorized the Executive Branch to place the statue in Parque 3 de Febrero. The foundation stone was laid on November 3, 1898.1

The monument was built by Italian sculptor Eugenio Maccagnani based on the one in the city of Brescia, Italy. He was present when the inauguration took place on June 19, 1904, which was also attended by, among others, President Julio Argentino Roca, Bartolomé Mitre, Mayor Alberto Casares and the president of the organizing committee.
