3D model description

This is a vice I made to be used for working on jewelry, however I could see it being useful for smaller PCB boards and other small intricate work. It includes an experimental ratcheting handle that you press in to loosen and pull out to tighten with.

Works best with PVA supports, and with high strength filament.

~~ It is always best practice to print any holes with threads vertically, this print uses tight tolerances, and would be extremely difficult to remove traditional support material. As such, please print any threaded holes vertically. ~~

-Uses 12mm long (3mm diameter and 6mm diameter) pins. If printing them, make them 0.2-0.4mm undersized and print horizontally to the bed. Add a 0.8mm chamfer or fillet. Otherwise buy rod stock from your preferred dealer in 3mm and 6mm diameters. There are 20 holes of each size in the Ball Base storage, so to populate them you will need ((240mm) of rod + (18x) blade width) for each size. I suggest using a drill and a rotary tool (Dremel) with a cutoff wheel, as that allows chamfering of the ends.

-Should hold up to light percussion.

-Static base or ball base options.

-Ball base has a Split Pressure Nut to go around the ball. This should flex around the ball, however some persuasion may be needed.

-Print with bedplate supports only for the Handle, it has intricate interior geometry and support material stuck inside will be nearly impossible to remove.

-Handle clips into the Bolt permanently. The bolt clip can be removed, use a shim or business card, insert into the left side of the bolt hole between the bolt and rotate until the clip is pressed out. As the Bolt is considered a semi-consumable due to its fragility, I suggest printing a spare.

-Print the Bolt with 100% infill, it is prone to breaking. Printing at a 45 degree angle helps with strength, but take it slow and overextrude rather than underextrude.

-Highly recommend using grease in the moving mechanisms.

ASSEMBLY DIRECTIONS

Print the parts you need. (File notes will designate which parts are needed for what)
Remove supports and rafts.
Ensure fitment of parts before final assembly
Do not use adhesives when assembling. Only the large thread that goes into the base is static, everything else is dynamic.
Ball Base takes 10mm round padded/non slip feet, if you have them.
It has been printed but its in a pretty ugly purple and has a lot of marring on the surface, when new filament comes in I will reprint a display model.
