3D model description

About

This is Varran Ironchain, my charr engineer from Guild Wars 2. Made for a shits-and-giggles painting contest of a local painting club.

The model comes in multiple parts in order to make 3D printing (and most importantly: painting) the overhangs on the coat a bit less annoying (though I do regret not making the backpack a separate piece).

Equipment:

  • Medium Rubicon armor, only slightly modified
  • Charzooka, pretty much as-is (but damage turned all the way to Battle-Scarred)
  • Heavily modified fireworks gunΒΉ
  • Hoelbrak backpack, massively simplified (oh, and I also added a chain)

[1] Because the guys at the club whacked me with a 10x10x10 cm size limit for the contest after they saw the length of the mini with the gun.

Known issues

I didn't print this model myself due to me lacking a resin 3D printer. I've been told that the model is very hard to print. Here's a quick list of problems:

  • The chains didn't print well, broke right off with the supports.
  • The tail is not thick enough and also broke off in transport.
  • The aim-down fin on charzooka is too thin and bends very easily. I ended up reinforcing with various glues for plastic.

The fit between guns and gun stock is probably a little bit too loose. The fit between the legs and the upper body may have zero tolerance β€” use a file to file the excess off. The fit between the legs and the base was also pretty tight.

Other notes

Gears

There's a gear file. The idea was that the mini would have small gears suspended from the bottom of the backpack with the thinnest yarn / string I could find. I ultimately abandoned this notion, but I've included the file regardless. Maybe someone will want to bother with that. Everyone else can ignore the file.

Adding additional weight

  • The base is hollowed out. It should have enough space for a few M6 nuts, which are probably a good idea in order to balance out the charzooka.
  • The stud on top of the legs is smaller than the hole in the upper body. You should be able to fit at least one M6 nut in the empty space, but stuffing a few M6 bolts into the base did it for me
