Hi guys I'm Retro D,
And this is my New K1/K1Max Hotend Fan Shoud I've been working on to improve my Resonance.
As you know the K1 and K1 Max suffer from bad resonances on the X-Axis.
Just like a lot of you, I was having issues with my K1 and K1 Max, with the Resonance, I was getting crazy low recommended accelerations.
In the Low 3000.
I was Crying on the inside every time I did a resonance test and then seeing all my prints with ugly ringing all over.
I needed to do something about it.
I came up with this Design. Works well so I thought I'd share it.
For the K1 it Improved my X Axis from 8800 to 21900!
and for the K1 Max, I went from 3400 to 9700!
The K1 Max has a harder time due to the Larger size, so the improvement was not as much but still great.
Please see the Added Pic of the before and after.
This cooler has some of the following design improvements:
- Super Lightweight due to its Barebones Design.
- Better Airflow and Cooling Capabilities due to its singular large Duct.
- The fan mount is reversed to allow for most of the weight to be more centered. (this is what improves the Resonance)
- The Open Design allows for easy access to the cables if needed.
- Can use all the same screws from the Original Creality Hotend.
Please Remember your Results may vary from mine.
I have tested this on the K1 and K1 Max since I have both.
I saw a significant improvement in both the K1 and K1 Max's resonances and in the quality of the actual prints.
Hopefully, it can benefit you and your setup too, and help you get great prints like it did for me.
Remember to print it twice, Once with your original setup. then again once you've installed it. so you can get a cleaner print.
The Cleaner the print, the better the results of the cooling due to it having a cleaner and less turbulent-inducing duct. (Air flows better on smooth surfaces)
You will Need
- M3x4 (x2)
- M3x16 (x3)
- M3 Heated inserts (x4)
Happy Printing and Good Luck!
Dont forget to post your Makes.
Update: Added Knomi v2 Mount and bracket.
For the Knomi V2, the interface doesn't allow you to put in the fluid or mainsail extension. you need to disable the creality default one first.
I did this by SSH-ing into the printer after rooting it.
I used the following command to disable the K1 interface.
mv /usr/bin/web-server /usr/bin/web-server.disabled
mv /usr/bin/Monitor /usr/bin/Monitor.disabled
sed -i '/listen 4408 default_server;/a \ listen 80;' /usr/data/nginx/nginx/nginx.conf
/etc/init.d/S99start_app restart
/etc/init.d/S50nginx restart
Update: Added larger duct for more airflow.
Update: Added v3 with heat m3 inserts and some design changes.
Update: Added V3.2 with single duct, but more focused. This is my daily driver now. Works really well. Barely need the Aux fans anymore.
-More controlled Airflow
-Way quieter due to the solid design.
-Overhangs are coming out great.
-Less noise due to not needing the Aux fan as much, I set the Aux fan to 40% and the hotend fan to 80%.
Update: Added customizable disk to use in place of knomi. Allowing you to take advantage of the full build design with heated inserts.
