Description

A quick, resource-efficient print that can save your plant's life.

I've designed a self-watering stick that allows you to provide your plant with sufficient moisture without constantly keeping an eye on it or having to water it repeatedly in a short period. It's also perfect for watering your plants over an extended period without supervision for example when you are on vacation. Let me explain how it works in a moment.

But first, let's talk about how the self-watering stick functions. You'll need a cotton rope through which the plant can absorb water. There are special, inexpensive Selfwatering ropes available, which have a cotton fiber core and are highly absorbent. Alternatively, you can use any other absorbent rope.

The rope is first cut to a sufficient length. You'll need to adjust this length according to your desired application (e.g., the size of the pot, etc.). Next, thread the rope through the hole in the stick, pulling it through until both sides of the rope are evenly long. The rope can now be secured into the locking notches of the stick.

After that, insert the stick with the rope attached into the bottom of your plant pot until it reaches the stopper. Now, you can choose whether to place your pot in a container with a water reservoir or, for example, over a bowl.
You can also check out my spacer rings to transform any pot into a pot with reservoir:

Now, let's talk about how your plant can survive without supervision, especially during vacations
If you use a long rope for your self-watering stick, you can place all your plants over a large bowl or container filled with water and let all the ropes hang into the water. This ensures that all your plants can always absorb enough water.

Specifically for the vacation trick, you could, for example, fill a large box (e.g., from Ikea) with water and drill holes in the lid. Place your plants on the lid of the box, threading the ropes through the holes so they hang into the water. This way, you have a large container of water that can sustain your plants for several weeks without them being directly submerged in the water. The plants will take up as much water as they need.

In this way, your plants can remain in their standard pots during normal everyday life. However, for vacations, you simply place them over the box with water and insert the self-watering stick into your plant.
