3D model description

This is my idea of the ideal desktop tape dispenser:

  • It sports a sleek cubistic design that's both futuristic and retro.

  • It doesn't use the usual metal teeth for cutting; instead, it has a cutter blade that smoothly cuts even the toughest reinforced tape with a single, fluid hand motion.

  • Featuring rubber feet and weighing a solid 2 kg, it allows effortless single-handed use, even with heavy-duty tape.

  • It is super satisfying to touch and to use.

  • With a hollow bottom, it won't collect dirt (unlike most desktop tape dispensers).

  • Features a small reservoir for spare blades.

  • No part exceeds 20 cm, making it suitable for standard size FDM printers.

  • It comes with three wheels for various tape roll sizes.

  • Printable without supports (excluding the two "plugs").

  • It accommodates tape rolls up to 20 mm in width.

Additional parts needed:

  • 2 x 30 mm βŒ€ by 150 mm steel rods as weights. Alternatively: lead balls or coins.

  • Trapezoidal cutter blade 61 x 19 mm

  • 4 x 10 mm M 2.5 screws (or a slightly different size)

  • 4 x 11 mm βŒ€ rubber feet for speakers (or you print them from TPU)

The 30 mm βŒ€ steel rods can be ordered pre-cut from platforms like Amazon.

3D printing settings

All parts can be printed from PLA with 2.8 mm walls and 20 % infill. The main body takes up 400 g PLA and roughly 20 h build time with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

With the exception of the "plugs," no part requires support. The plugs need to be forcibly turned using a pipe wrench to break away their support structure.
