Description

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE CLEARANCE OF THE TAG IN THE PART. NOT ALL TAGS ARE CREATED EQUAL AND SOME MIGHT BE BIGGER THAN OTHERS.

I have recently bought in to indoor plants and I wanted an easy way to keep track of them. I wanted to make a very simple design for a NFC tag holder that could stick right into the plant soil. So, using some cheap NFC tags I got off amazon from other projects, I got to work. I will have the link to the ones i used posted at the bottom. I use NFCtools to read/write my tags to my Samsung phone. iPhones should work too, although I have not tested with them as I do not own one.

Using an NFC tag with a 25mm diameter and a 1mm thickness, you can make this neat little tag too! The model was designed to be a tight fit so the tag wouldn't move around, so the tag sits just flush with the internal cavity. The print profile should have the pause built in, but in case you are slicing it yourself, you want to put a pause at the last layer before the bridge (layer 16 if you are using a 0.2mm layer height). Once the tag has been placed in the printed model, hit resume and it will print over the tag, sealing it in the holder!

The indent is there to mark the front of the tag although it should scan either way!

Printing 1 tag takes about 8 or so minutes, and doesn't take much filament at all at just about 4 grams or so.

I printed my tester in white, but print in any color you want! I used PLA, but if you make these for outside applications, I would recommend PETG for its UV and chemical resistance. (I have only tested this with PLA but i see no reason why other filaments besides ABS (due to shrinkage and without scaling the model) wouldn't work.
