Description

The "TR" in "TR Red Bricks" stands for "Taiwan Renga Kabushiki Kaisha" in English, with "renga" being the Japanese kanji for "brick," translated into Chinese as "red brick." In 1913, Japanese entrepreneur Uemon Shitatarō established the Taiwan Renga Kabushiki Kaisha in Taipei, Taiwan. The company utilized a dry-press brick-making process, resulting in dense and heavy red bricks that were considered top-quality building materials at the time. These bricks were commonly used in various government buildings and occasionally in private residences, where some individuals deliberately showcased bricks imprinted with the "TR" mark on the exterior to symbolize wealth or family status.

Although production of TR red bricks ceased many years ago, they can still be found in many old-style buildings. Through 3D modeling, the story of these century-old red bricks is being shared with a wider audience.
