Description

Funnel for wide mouth mouth jars. Has an inner funnel to keep the lip of the jar itself clean. I printed mine with the funnel mouth on the build plate, but it should work either way. I can make the funnel mouth any shape / size you want, just ask. The threads may be different depending on the brand of jar you have. Mason jars evidently don't use standard machining threads, so these are custom designed.

Perfect. Now I need one with a spout for pouring.

Other Issues:I thought this was a fantastic idea and the print came out flawless. RexVagabond is clear that Mason Jars are not standard, and willing to customize - so high marks for that! I printed in ASA - to get the highest temp rating I could. I believe the threads in this model are too deep, and interfered with the glass jar threads. Even after cutting threaded ring off and filing/sanding the threads, I didn't get 1/4 turn engagement. Reading about food safety and filament printing killed for me!

Thanks for the thread update - again, I thought this was a great idea, and wanted to surprise my Mother-in-Law who does a lot of canning of lots of items. Unfortunately there seems to be a ton of info (and controversy) out there about food safe plastics and the bacteria loving surfaces created by 3-D filament printers. Most seem to agree that food safe 2 part epoxy is a great coating - but most only seem to handle up to 50C, and my Mother-in-Law is adding items to jars that are over 100C.

Here’s some literature on the food safety of 3D printed items: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/373174194_Sanitation_Effectiveness_of_3D-printed_Parts_for_Food_and_Medical_Applications https://lt728843.wixsite.com/maskrelief/post/the-final-say-in-food-safe-3d-printing

Hello You could make it like a scoop? I do freeze drying, and a scoop on a jar would be fantastic

It could be useful in some situations for the top of the funnel to have a cylindrical rim about 25mm tall. Perhaps as a snap on feature so that other rims could be attached also.

That’s a good idea! I may make a “universal” threaded base that can use different funnel shapes.

Nice funnel. We use Mason Jars quite a bit and it's been useful. I may upscale one just a bit to fit my desicant jar, or maybe just move the desicant over to a mason jar. Either way, thanks for a very solid print.

It's a little TOO sturdy. xD Hopefully a thinner model that doesn't double up the wall count is released at some point - I love this thing, don't get me wrong, I just think it would easily use half the filament amount and still serve its purpose. Nice work.
