Description

This is a Tardis (Dr. Who) themed Ring Box. It's meant to hold a wedding ring, but might be big enough to hold other stuff. I designed this for the valentines contest but didn't finish the design in time to join the contest.

It prints in several pieces. Base, Lid, Hinge Pin, 3x Police Box panels, 3x Window panels, Top. The hinge pin is very small and can be kind of finicky if there are any problems during printing. I ended up attaching the lid to the base, then gently tapping the hinge pin into place with a rubber mallet. The first time the lid is placed on the base it seems to be very tight fitting, but it quickly loosened up after opening and closing it a few times. The panels snap onto the lid and base with a very tight fitting connector. I didn't add any tolerance to the panel connector, so it can sometimes take a bit of pressure to get the panels to attach. My plan if they refused to attach was to lightly sand the connector piece, or remove the connector entirely and glue the panels on. Fortunately, the panels attached fine for me. I simply glued the top piece on with CA(superglue). The ring pillows are just some Dr. Who themed fabric rolled up with some cotton balls and squished into place.

It might be possible to print-in-place with the panels already attached, but at the cost of a lot of extra time and filament. I haven't tried it though. However, I did try to print-in-place the hinge pin and that didn't work out at all.
