Description

This is my own designed Terrarium for my little pets. Im using it for keeping little jumping spiders.

I tried to find a cheap solution for an terrarium which can be used for jumping spiders. These little jumpers often build their homes directly underneath the top cover and also need fresh water and air. Also I wanted no glass terrarium. There a few products in the market, but most not customizable or too expensive. Of course its also a nice little present for the kids and their new found pets ;)

So here we are, I tried to create a solution for this and want to share it with you :)

Here are the facts:

  • total size about 20x20x20, greatest print size 20x20x19,6cm
  • integrated front ventilation, openings are not greater than 0.5mm
  • customizable plexy glass inlays for 2mm plexy
    • top and side covers can also be ventilated, you can print it with the given models for example with translucent petg
  • ideal print with petg or petg-cf because of water, temps and humidity - please don't cut the plexy too large so its possible to break the frames
    • please ensure that the frame is printed correctly, it might brake if you have a layer shift there!
  • main frame mostly printed without supports, only the top parts need support, so you might have to try good settings for you
  • frame is fixed with printed bolt-fixtures, no glue or screws needed (I've added glue because I had a print failure in one layer)

Buildup:

Print the main, top and fixture parts. You have to select if you want to have full-ventilations or ventilation with a little feeding door/opener in the back-sides. Also the top inserts can be printed with a ventilation plate together with a combination part if you want.

Now one important step: try to measure the correct size of the plexy glass sheets by yourself! I did multiple prints and the filament always tends to extend a bit, I can give you approximate dimensions:

  • Front: 18 x 18cm (with extra free space on the top for better pull-out
  • Top with extra printed insert and combination: 18,5 x 15,5 cm
  • Top without extra printed inserts: 18,5 x 19cm
  • Left + Right: 14,8 x 14,8 cm
  • Left + Right inserts if no inserts printed: 15 x 2,5 cm (original printed size is 15,5x2,6cm, but too much cutted isn't good)
  • Back: 14,8 x 17,8 cm

If you cut it too large then the frame might break during assembly and i left enough space for the sheet inserts, so that you have around 1cm until it really doesn't fit or will have a gap.

Slide all plexy sheets and prints inside the frame and the top part. If you want, you can add some little points of glue in the plexy frames, don't slide the front door into the frame yet. Now set the top part on the main frame and push the fixture bolds inside (you also might have to file or cut so that it fits well). Now slide the door in and you're done :)

----

I invested a lot of time in this project, so please be kind that I printed my name on the side of the model. I don't want to have money of someone, but I also don't like to see my creation on some other portals, where you have to pay for it.

So give me a like and write some comments if it worked for you as good as for me :)
