Description

If you want a commercial license, check out my bio and get it from Patreon.

I always want to make some figures/characters. Have a lot of joints, you can make it to any posture you like. After my first design “Noisy box” for MW kit card contest, I wanted to have this design to be the second design for Kit card contest (2/5).

The idea is inspired by Lucky 13 and StarK.

I want to have a full control of my design files, style, and etc, So, rather than working on remix/adopt existing design. I think starting from scratch would be something I prefer.

Spending a little bit more time, but I will have better control and understanding of the model itself, design tolerancing, and easier to make future work based on this design/platform.

I want to put this project as a long-term project, new accessories, refine with the tolerancing, and use this core to make something more badaxx. So, put your thought on the comment, WE WILL MAKE THIS DESIGN BETTER.

I also want to make a preview for an upcoming series of design projects this year.

I call it Project Z:

Z18 Engine Model – Large scale Complete Long Block four-cylinder Engine

Based on Honda legendary B18 series engine. It will move just like a real engine.

Whale – Steampunk style with moving fins, tails, and body, driving by gears and other basic mechanical mechanism.

Stay tune.

Design:

Return to this stick man design.

I think there is a big advantage to having design separate into two major components: basic structure and shell. Just like skeleton and muscles.

So, I name this basic core structure Core Zero (sounds like Coke zero??).

Basic structure, consists of all the moving joints and shell could attach to the basic structure. That said, it will be very easy to have derivative work in the future based on this design.

Since we are going to design something human style figure, the critical part is to figure out the proportion. So, I got a lot of research done, just to get the proportion right.

Drafting the dimensions and parameters. Get overall proportion done.

I have go over my design inventory, trying to figure out what joint mechanism that I am going to use for this design. Apparently, ball joint is still the best option to gain the degree of freedom that I wanted for this design.

There are a few different ball joints in this design to gain or limit DOF, I run few samples to try out the tolerancing and strength. Made a full body print. Found more issues.

Went back, made some updates.

Finally, we have a stick man figure done, I mean, almost done. Running Second completely test print with full scale.

Model prints well. I had a bit of trouble making the figure stand though. However it sits super well!

Printed well. The shoulder pieces are the weakest joint and have popped out a few times. IMO it being in a kit card just makes it harder to put together. and with good clean bed the brim might be unnecessary. Overall a fun print :)

Good model, printed well. Joints are a little too tight, I would suggest adding a little more tolerance.
