Description

The primary use case for these holders is to act both as a mount for a sharpening stone and as a storage solution.

Because the bottom of the holder is open, water can flow through it, preventing the stone's bottom from becoming overly soaked. This also allows the stones to be stacked on top of each other without being completely dry.

These are grit labeled 400, 1000, 3000, 5000, and blank. There may be users who want to just have one blank mount, and swap stones like when using a traditional mount.

It is suggested to apply half inch grip tape or rubber tape on the bottom of the mount to prevent slipping. That is the primary purpose of the extra vertical material on the bottom. I'm experimenting with neoprene ½ inch x ¼ inch rubber tape, and may also try 1-2 variants of grip tape.

Prints tend to warp in a way that can make the holder rock slightly. the rubber/grip tape will mitigate this. Thicker tape will naturally be able to compensate more for the warp.

My stones are 200mm x 70mm, so these holders are made to that spec. I have a set Mate tolerance of 0.32mm, so the top slot of the holder is 200.32mm x 70.32mm. There are fillets to eliminate play. The bottom slots are 1mm wider in both dimensions to make the holders easier to stack without introducing too much play.

You are encouraged to scale the model in your slicer to match your stones' dimensions.
