Description

I thought it would be a fun little challenge to design an altoids tin. Internally this is the same dimensions as an altoids tin (without the rolled edge at the top (which makes the accessible size ~2mm larger than a tin). Externally it's larger as I've made the walls 2mm thick (altoids tin is ~1mm thick).

 

So if you want to print those inserts for altoids tins but don't have a tin for them, you can now print a “tin” to put them in, in case you're too lazy to buy a tin of mints or don't eat sugar/mints.

 

This uses a print in place hinge, so supports will be needed for the lid. I did consider making the lid seperate but for the few extra pence to print supports I considered this worthwhile as it will result in a stronger hinge.

 

EDIT: Added a STEP/STL file with the lid aligned at 90 degrees for printing, I found that printing flat with supports left a nasty texture on the lid. Printing the lid at 90deg means the lid is smooth although there are still a few nasties where the supports stick around the hinge its nowhere near as much as printing the supports on the lid.

 

Also you can print the 90deg stl at 45 degrees to the bed, although it still needs supports its minimal and you should only see some artefacts on the edges that face the build plate and the hinge.
