3D model description

Welcome to innovation in navigation!

Introducing our new weathervane design for Ilca / Laser, or other small dinghy sailing boat which is specially designed for sailing enthusiasts who want practical and affordable solutions.

Our wind indicator is designed to be 3D printed in a very short time, you can have it ready at home in a matter of minutes, without the need to travel to the nautical store, or pay the high prices they are charging for the whole piece or spare parts. You can print several and always carry spare parts and share them with your fellow sailors...

They are usually pieces that are lost or damaged very easily, but we have designed this one with the sailor in mind, easy to print in PLA or PETG and with a very durable threaded joint system and if time or weather conditions damage it (they are not eternal) you can always print another one and that's it.

With this system you don't need to always depend on expensive commercial nautical spare parts, you are the one who prints it whenever you want.

Main Features:

The grimpola comes with all the parts and accessories needed to print, including attachments to the mast in case over time they break, single vane (faster and easier to print without brackets) and double vane (two vane is more accurate and responsive), and a full range of bushings designed to withstand even the most extreme offshore conditions.

In addition, we have adapted the design so that the parts remain in place even if the boat capsizes, ensuring that you can continue to sail in the same conditions.

Our design comes with a bushing (weathervane shaft piece) that is compatible with the standard commercial weathervane pole attachment, which means you can easily install it on your boat without any additional modifications, but if you want the whole new system you can also print it.

By offering the possibility to 3D print the wind vane at home every time a part breaks or needs to be replaced, we are helping to reduce the maintenance costs of your boat.

Don't forget to check out the other nautical items on my Martym3d profile in case you are interested in them for your sailing

In addition, by using 3D printing technology, we are also promoting sustainability by minimizing material waste and the environmental footprint associated with traditional manufacturing.

I welcome comments and suggestions for further design improvements, and if you are happy with the product don't forget to recommend me (@Martym3d) to your fellow sailors or Yacht Club members.

3D printing settings

All parts can be printed in PLA or better in PETG for durability and water resistance.

With the average speed of your printer (60/300 mm/s) and 60% high infill.

  • There are two models of weathervane (17 cm), a simple one that can be printed without supports, I recommend putting a base skirt so that it does not lose balance and another double weathervane that because of its height is printed with supports and base.

  • There are 3 models, one with a 3.5 mm hole, one without a hole (so you can make it yourself with a plastic or wood drill bit to the measurements you have) and one with a 3.5 mm hole and a lower curb that fits most commercial hooks that you already have without coming off.

The bushings should be printed with skirt on the base so they won't move around in the printer

  • The clamp with the mast, in case you need to print it and change the one you have.

If for your special configuration any piece does not fit you or is too tight do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to make the necessary modifications so that you can adapt it to your measurements.

Enjoy carefree sailing with your new wind vane!
