This is the German DM-51, a High-Explosive (HE), defensive or offensive, Blast and Fragmentation, hand grenade that uses the DM-82 fuze.

The DM-51 offensive grenade becomes the DM-51 defensive grenade when the fragmentation sleeve is installed.

The DM-58 practice (defensive/offensive) hand grenade bodies are inert copies of the HE grenade and use the DM-18 practice grenade fuze containing a blast simulator for sound and smoke effects.

The HE grenades are olive drab and the practice grenades are light blue.

The designation is stenciled in yellow on the HE grenade and in brown on the practice grenade.

The HE defensive grenade may also be stamped HGR/SLR (hand grenade/fragmentation).

The fuze designation is stenciled on the safety lever.

The grenades and the fuze covers are plastic.

The fuze is aluminum and the safety lever is steel.
