Description

A minimal solution for displaying instant camera film memories on your walls.

Five snap on shapes to mix & match: the squiggle, the pill, donuts, hearts & flowers

Print a single frame or link the modular frame pieces to hold as many photos as you want vertically

If you have an instant camera and are anything like me, you likely also have many little stacks of pictures from various events and adventures stashed throughout your home.

This solution provides a minimal and customizable way to display your photographed memories. The single frame and multi-frame options let you choose how many pictures to vertically link together. Five different snap on shape options (the squiggle, the pill, circle donuts, flowers or hearts) hold your pictures in place. Pick the shape and color, with the freedom to make them all different, to match the vibe of the image or room you’re displaying them in.

Design Goals

  • Low filament usage - keep it cheap & low impact
  • Let the photo be the star - don’t cover up the iconic format of an instant camera picture
  • Easily customizable - provide the ability to suit a variety of users & use cases

Photo Size Compatibility

Designed for 86mm tall film - should accommodate mini, square or wide Fujifilm Instax Film.

All the example pictures are from my own Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1.

Please comment if you would like me to add frames sized for Polaroid or other brands/sizes of instant camera film!

Approximate Shape Sizes

All shapes are 4mm thick (also - STLs all saved in mm units)

  • Squiggle: 36mm x 15mm
  • Pill: 44mm x 15mm
  • Donuts: 41mm x 15mm
  • Flowers: 43.5mm x 17mm
  • Hearts: 51mm x 15.5mm

Assembly

  1. If you’re creating a multiple frame chain, click all the center connector pieces together, then add a top end piece and a bottom end piece.
  2. Snap your shapes onto the back frame(s).
    1. Note: If the shapes feel loose/aren’t snapping securely to the frames - add a bit of glue to each hole on the shape, then press onto the frame. There is a set clearance gap of 1mm between the shape and the frame for the photo to slide into, so it is not necessary for the shape to be removable.
  3. Mount your photo holder to the wall - use a flat-head thumbtack or a small nail (max head diameter of 12mm to fit).
    1. Note: If making a really long vertical chain, consider adding a tack or nail to the bottom frame piece to support the weight (and to prevent the assembly from swinging around).
    2. Other note: I have not tried command strips or double stick tape - but if you want to try this and it works, please let people know in a comment or review!
  4. From the side, slide your photos between the back frame and the holder shape.
  5. Enjoy seeing your memories on display!
