3D model description

Microceratus was a small, herbivorous dinosaur that thrived during the Late Cretaceous period, existing approximately 83 to 70 million years ago. This diminutive ceratopsian dinosaur, measuring around 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length, was characterized by its modest size compared to its ceratopsian relatives.

Unlike the more famous ceratopsians like Triceratops, Microceratus lacked the prominent frills and large horns. Instead, its appearance was marked by simplicity, featuring a relatively uncomplicated skull structure. The fossils of Microceratus were unearthed in the Djadochta Formation in Mongolia, offering insights into the prehistoric ecosystems of Central Asia.

As a herbivore, Microceratus likely foraged on a diet consisting of plants like ferns and low-lying vegetation. Its compact size and unique features make it an intriguing subject in the study of ceratopsian dinosaurs, shedding light on the diversity and adaptations of these ancient creatures.

The initial discoveries of Microceratus fossils occurred during the 1970s through a collaborative effort between Soviet and Mongolian paleontologists. These findings contribute to our understanding of the evolutionary history and paleogeography of ceratopsians during the Late Cretaceous period.
