3D model description

This is a pair of STL files for a simple cap and holder, in order to make tool extraction easier while using a Harbor Freight / Central Machinery mini mill model 44991 (or similar mini mill).

This design requires a 3/8" wooden dowel of at least 8 inches in length. Secure the cap to one end of the dowel with super glue.

Mount the holder to the side of your workbench or a wall using small tacks or finishing nails.

The cap is intended to protect the end grain of the wood and provide a better surface for whacking with a rubber mallet, and it also retains the dowel inside the holder. The dowel itself is intended to be gentle on the collets and mill tools, to avoid marring the surface finish or messing up any internal threading. Personally, this has made tool changes much faster for me when using the milling machine.

3D printing settings

The cap should be printed with 100% infill, since you'll be striking it. Print it upside down (hollow end facing up).

Neither model should need supports.
