155mm M107 Projectile (HE-Frag) - USA

This is the American 155mm M107, a High-Explosive Fragmentation (HE-Frag), spin-stabilized, projectile that is probably the most widely used of all western artillery projectiles manufactured by several nations, sometimes with variations in the filling and or filling method, or other details and is given a national designation, such as those produced to UK requirements are designated L21 and in Germany, they are designated as the DM21.

The projectile is a hollow steel main body filled with 14.6 lbs of TNT or 15.4 lbs of Comp B.

The shape is ogival with a boattail for aerodynamic efficiency.

A supplementary charge of 0.3 lbs of TNT is contained in an aluminum liner in the deep fuze cavity.

A threaded lifting plug closes the fuze cavity at the nose of the projectile for handling and storage.

Point-detonating (PD), time, or Proximity (PRX) deep cavity-only fuzes may be used with this projectile.

When a Proximity (PRX) fuze is fitted, the supplementary charge is removed.
