Knot wizard is a surgical knot tying practice kit.  The book-like shape allows it to fit in a white coat pocket to be easily portable.  It can also store suture thread material for practice and scissors for cutting out tied knots.  The different pegs allow for multiple knot tying tasks and also has a collapsible cup to practice tying into a hole.  Non-3d printed parts required for assembly are 3 #64 rubber bands and 4 5mm x 2mm neodymium magnets.  The tray also has space to store the large sized cherry labs folding cellphone holder so trainees can watch teaching videos while practicing.  

Knot tying tasks

Fixed Peg: For practicing the basic movements for knot tying.  

Hook Pegs and rubber band: For practicing knot tying against resistance.  Practice doing a surgeon's knot to bring the rubber band together.  To increase the resistance, try tying the knot close to the Pegs.

Magnetic Peg: For practicing tying the knot down to tissue rather than pulling up.  Has 2 strengths for different difficulties.  The magnetic strength is changed by further recessing the magnet into the cap.

Collapsible cup: For practicing tying into a deep hole.  

Instrument tying: there is space to store a small needle drive to practice instrument tying as well.

How to use.

To set up, first take off the outer rubber bands and remove the instrument tray.  To weigh down the tying board, you can either rubber band the board to a book, or put something heavy such as a smart phone inside the tray.  Replace the outer rubber bands as they act as grips to prevent sliding of the board while tying.  The different tying task pegs can finger tighten into the openings on the top of the board.  To assemble the cup, first place the 3 “up” panels into 3 sides of the hexagon cutout.  The 3 “down” panels can slot in with the to complete the cup.  Note that there is a slight bevel with the panels so the orientation of the panels does matter.
