Summary

Hi friends,

I don't know about you but I was asking myself about the impact of humidity on filaments. Many friends of mine have Sunlu or eSun filament dryer boxes. Beautiful and well done but dedicated objects. As I don’t need to have my dryer near the printer nor dry my filament during the printing process… and I like dried tomatoes… I decided to use an aliment dryer to dry my filaments,
I bought a basic Livoo dehydrator of 32cm diameter at Amazon. And, because I was jealous of the specialized boxes, I added an hygrometer/thermometer. Unfortunately, I didn't find how to install a kitchen scale. A pity ! :)
Because of this specific configuration (and for pleasure) I designed my own lifters. My idea was to be able to keep all the components in the original box to gain volume. To to that, I decided to use a tray upside down for the top. This orientation allows to have small lifter. And I can put a 1kg spool inside. All my own specifications are respected, so I’m happy !
The system is composed of standard lifters of 90° each. So, if you use 4 of them you have a full circle and you don’t need hygrometer. I designed too a special lifter to install the hygrometer. Use 3 standard with it to have the full circle. There is too a piece (printed in two parts) to maintain the spool.
I generally use PLA, PETG and TPU. I’ve read many time that the parts printed for dryer have to be printed in PETG or with a more heat resistant material. But IMHO, as the machine must avoid to distort the filament during process, there is no risk of distorting the lifters. So I printed in PLA. I can tell you that I dried at 65°c without any problem with PLA lifters. But anyway. If you prefer PETG is good too.
I printed 0.28mm with an infill of 10% and without supports. Very easy printing.
I hope this will be helpful for you.

Bonjour chez vous !
