Olde English Bulldogge (OEB) is a recent North American dog breed, whose creation was initiated in the 1970s.1 It was initially developed by David Leavitt with the aim of being a recreation of the Old English working Bulldog of the Philo-kuon type, now extinct - However the creation took another direction and David Leavitt adopted another name for his original creation.

Using a breeding system developed for bovines, David Leavitt crossed the current bulldog with Pit Bull, Bullmastiff and American Buldogue (all descendants of the old bulldog). The result was an athletic breed that resembled the bulldogs of 1860 but also possessed a friendlier temperament. Leavitt idealized the new breed to be called Olde English Bulldogge, however since the breed took a different direction with modern heavy dog strands and was recognized by the UKC in 2014 with this name,1 Leavitt renamed the dogs of his own creation to Leavitt Bulldog as a separate breed.
