TipuCopter - Tipuana seed pods
Tipuana, also commonly known as Tipu trees, are South American trees.
these trees provide good shade, and they are awesome trees that kids love to climb.
Most people would recognize these trees from their 'helicopter' seed pods, and their beautiful yellow flowers as they bloom each summer.
The 'helicopter' seed pods are flat-winged fruit, green at first, looking like blossoms.
When the pods drays and turn brown they tend to loos from the branch and get Carried on the wind by their papery wings, spinning like 'helicopter' blades away from the tree. the seeds can travel further than if they just were fell straight to the ground. This means new seeds have more space, thus a better chance of growing into a new tree.
my childhood neighborhood was full of Tipu trees, making it look like a seen from a fairytale, at blossom. I used to climb Tipu trees and spending time, just sitting among their branches, picking ‘helicopter' pods, throwing them away, and enjoying seeing them spinning away, on their way to ground.
After many iterations, I have created a model that is 3d printable and mimicking the 'helicopter' pods behavior. I call it the TIPUCOPTER.
