Download includes a simple yet very capable drill press that is not limited by the length of the power cord, the size of the workpiece, or the density of the material - this literally do-it-all solution can be your next daily-used-tool (it has for me).

Project started off as alternative to a milescraft drill press adapter that I would use on occasion but would avoid if I could - as my projects matured so did my material & complexity of workpieces. While this drill adapter would suffice for soft/hardwood but not much more (well at least enjoyably). The user experience was so bad I had easy justification to build this versatile solution that addressed all my personal (& actual) concerns & frustrations.

Focus areas for improvement over milescraft cordless drill adapter:

  • Maintain the mobility of using a cordless drill & the battery ecosystem I already own.

  • Make easy work of different materials (density, shape, & size).

  • Better precision when working with more denser materials that required tighter tolerances.

  • β€œFeel Good/ Perform Good” build quality – ER16 over ER11, 12mm spindle/ bearings over 8mm, 859 dc motor over 775, 2080 vs 2020.

  • Reliable, serviceable, & upgradeable spindle drive system (belt drive over direct drive motor).

  • Ensure my batteries did not discharge to unsafe level (permanent damage).

  • Power level readout/ quick measure of battery capacity.

  • Require maintainable speed control (vs the drill variable speed control which feels like steps in rpm).

  • Lack-of measurable & controllable depth control (adapter I used had no tangible uom).

  • Enable the use of different workpiece’s & drilling operations (drill through vs straight into the workpiece).

  • Maintain respectable sound levels of a cordless drill, if not better.

  • Nice to have - quick setup time, weight sensitive for mobility, & easy to put away.

  • Upgradable platform – 2020 is very easy to work from.
