Baldwin Decapod Locomotive

The Baldwin Decapod is a class of steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in the United States during the first half of the 20th century. This locomotive was noted for its unconventional wheel arrangement and its ability to tow heavy freight trains over difficult terrain.

The Baldwin Decapod received its name because of its "10-0-10" wheel arrangement, meaning it had ten driving wheels with no front or rear guide wheels. This unusual arrangement resembled the pincers of a decapod, hence the name "Decapod".

These locomotives were specifically designed to operate in mountainous terrain and difficult conditions, where high tractive power was needed. They were robust and powerful locomotives that could tow heavy freight trains, especially on railroad lines with steep grades and sharp curves.

The Baldwin Decapod was used by several railroad companies in the United States, as well as in other countries.
