Description

A card box that uses a rack and pinion mechanism to lift the cards up when the box is opened.

Printing Information
There are 2 versions of this case's sliding covers that you can print. The Split Cover Version has the sliding cover's gear panels printed separate from the cover. This version requires super glue to join the but allows for printing without support. The Complete Cover Version has the gear panels attached but requires support when printing.

Personally, I would recommend the split version as it is easier to print and the gear teeth come out stronger due to the print orientation. I have also attached the step files for the complete assemblies if anyone wants to make their own modifications.

Printing List

  • Base Cover
  • Card Holder

Print one of the following sets

  • Swinging Cover - Cover (Print 2)
  • Swinging Cover - Panel 1 (Print 2)
  • Swinging Cover - Panel 2 (Print 2)

or

  • Swinging Cover - Complete (Print 2)

Assembly Instructions
Skip step a if you printed the complete swinging cover version.

Step 1:

Use super glue to stick the side panels to each swinging cover. When gluing, make sure that the knob faces out and the teeth of the gear face inwards.

Each swinging cover should look like this when done.

Step 1.5:

This is an optional step but a step I highly recommend. Take the Card Holder and slide it inside the Base Cover. If it is loud and scratchy, sand the inside of the Base Cover and the outside of the Card Holder until they slide quietly and smoothly.

Step 2:

Take the Swinging Covers and line up the first tooth of the gear with the first tooth of the Card Holder.

Step 3:

Slide the Base Cover on and push it until it snaps into place.

You are done assembling your card case!
