Description

Summary

I designed this tripod plate when I lost my original unbranded tripod quick release plate (which I eventually found, when the thing was already printed, ahah!)
I needed not only a tripod plate, but also a screw. In addition I wanted the screw to stay mounted in the plate without it falling back.
The main features of this design are the recessed shape of the plate, that allows for a high density foam pad that prevents camera from slipping, and a threaded hole to screw the screw in.
The screw is a standard 1/4" / 20 threeads per inch screw.
I added a chamfered top for easier insertion.
I tweaked it a little to make its diameter 1/100mm thinner then 6mm (1/4") in order to avoid excessive friction when screwing the screw in the camera. The idea came to me after I printed https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2808184 and had it jammed in an old camera.

The screw is simply perfect. It screws in smoothly and with minimal friction, yet, it is not loose. It features a top 4mm threaded part and a lower smooth shaft. Once screwed in the plate hole, it cannot fall back unless it is unscrewn.

Although I am confident that - if printed correctly - the screw is strong and precise enough to screw in a camera body with no problems, print it and use it at your own risk
If not properly printed, the screw could break in the camera, leaving the threaded shaft caught in the camera hole. You might want to try it with an old camera. If you have any doubts, please ask me or the community before risking to trap a piece of plastic in your camera.
In the unlikely event that you break the screw in the camera, don't panic. With a little patience and a thin dremel milling bit you should be able to clean the camera thread with minimal (if any) damage.

Notes:

Print the plate, but especially the screw, at the finest resolution and the lowest speed that you can afford. I printed mine with a layer thicknes of 0.08mm at 30mm/s speed. The screw can be printed in upright position with no support, or you can turn it 90° and print it sideways with support. This should ensure added torsional strength. PLA is OK. stronger materials would be preferable. Set low density support layers at 0.16mm

Set support z-distance at 0.16 for easy support strip off.

I experienced a slight tendency to warping. You might want to ad a small 5mm brim around the plate.

How I Designed This

The old tripod I designed this plate for has no brand. At least, it doesn't bear a brand label anymore, so its brand is unknown to me, now. See the dimensions diagram here to decide if it's fit for your tripod.
