Description

All new Mag Pen V3 and V3.2 is out now!

  • Updated 4/4/24:
  • V3 is the smooth mag pen body.
  • V3.2 is the textured mag pen body.
  • “15xX Magnetic End Cap” is an end cap with a recess for adding a 15x2 or 15x3 magnet for easy storage of your pen on any metal surface.  It's strong enough to hold the pen even with all the magnets loaded into your pen.

After my first creation of the Mag Pen I wanted something new but still had kind of the same Mag Pen feel to it.  TikTok

This new body and mechanical magnet delivery system works really great with very few parts and 100% printable.

I chose to use ABS for this project because it has some really great strength and glides a little smoother mechanically than PLA or PETG. It also flexes a little nicer than the other filaments and with a snap on end cap this was essential to the assembly of this pen.

I am uploading this model in 8x3mm and 8x4mm versions to share and develop the new line of magnet insertion pens.

I don't think there will be any pens larger than 8mm due to the mechanical limitations of the shuttle and end cap forks. I will be working on and releasing smaller shuttles to drop in as I go so keep an eye out for more to come soon!

As always thanks for checking this out and for all the positive feedback I've received on my other designs I really enjoy watching others put these little projects to use. God bless and happy printing!

tbh, it's a bit confusing. I take it I should print the 8x4 version, but what does 15x3 refer to? why is only 1 plate called v3.2? Thanks.

Works great. No issues using PLA+ (eSUN Fire Engine Red) End cap attached and removed very easily. Threads could feel a little smoother, I'm sure that will improve as it wears in. Maybe a little lube? Idea for v4: 1 body that can take different size inserts? But then you'd also need different sized tips for the main body, and it all gets a bit fiddly at that point. So... maybe not such a good idea 🤣 Thanks for the model and all the help 🙂 Not a great photo. Looks better in real life 👍🏻

Another idea. Maybe a remix of the shuttle part that allows you to insert the magnet mid-print, so that no glue is needed? Has to be a tight fit to stop the magnet attaching to the printer nozzle and being pulled out, and causing the print to be knocked over.
