Description

****** Print Profile Version 2 ******

An improved print profile version 2 is now available. The print profile features a different part orientation that should hopefully fix the bed adhesion issues some users reported. I will keep version 1 online because it still gives a cleaner finish despite being less reliable.

Turn your smartphone light into a soft indirect light source with this portable clip-on lampshade diffuser!

Especially when the days are getting longer again you can enhance your outdoor ambiance with the soft, indirect light of this innovative accessory. Perfect for camping, evening strolls, or sunset picnic, this portable lampshade attaches to your smartphone, casting a gentle white glow that adds a touch of magic to any outdoor setting. But of course this gadget is not limited to outdoor use. Also indoors you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere with its soft, indirect light.

Assembly

The print is split into two plates. While the lamp effect will work just by sticking the parts together, it is recommended to use glue to connect them permanently.

Printing

Use the print profile from the designer, i.e. me. I went through several iterations to find the best combination between model parameters, slicer settings, print speed and last but not least surface finish.

Scaling the model (for thin or thick phones)

Since phone vary in thickness, it is possible that the clip-on part does not fit your phone. The simplest solution would be to put some adhesive patch onto the bottom of the clip, e.g. a felt glider. If you want a perfect solution, there is also the (limited) possibility to scale the model. If you do that, make sure to only scale the z-axis alone! This means in Bambu Studio you will want to disable the “uniform scale” setting.

  • if your phone is thicker than 10 mm (including the camera bulge), you should increase the z-axis value
  • if your phone is thinner than 10 mm (including the camera bulge), you need to decrease the z-axis value; the model should work down until 75% scale; if you require even less thickness, you can help yourself with a negative part that restores the groove that fits the lamp shade

Commercial Use

The model on this website is only available for non-commercial use. This means you can print it for yourself or as a gift for others, but you may not sell or alter the model. If you are interested in obtaining a commercial license, please contact me via a direct message.

Awesome idea! I had no problems with the print. Suggestion for next design - a glowing mushroom ;)

After 2 failed attempts to print the clip with the original orientation, this one printed easily first try. A little more clean up required for the support but it's still good.

cool fun print and idea. I need a thicker bracket for my phone so the lamp base sits flush with the light, but that's no fault of the creator.

How many mm should the clamp be spaced apart?

Hi, I made a second clip with 7mm thickness. If you like you can give that one a try. It is in the updated print profile on plate 3.

Strength Issue

Hi, could you please explain what kind of strength issue there was?

Replying to @modelicious :
i printed it twice. 100% and 90%. (using support, of course) Both times the printer started to print spaghetti at the same part of the object. So I had to throw it away. The third print was printed in a different orientation (like the final position). That worked.

Thank you for the explanation! Good to hear that your third print with a different orientation was successful. Sorry for the inconvenience, strangely I did not have the problem myself when design and doing test prints. However while doing test prints of a tighter clip I observed the same issues myself in the meantime. Your feedback and my own experience led me to create a version 2 print profile with a different orientation that should be easier to print.

Three out of 4 prints failed because they break off the printplate during printing
