Back to the Future (titulada Regreso al futuro en España, y Volver al futuro o Vuelta al futuro en Hispanoamérica) es una película estadounidense de ciencia ficción y comedia de 1985 dirigida y escrita por Robert Zemeckis —Bob Gale también colaboró como guionista—, producida por Steven Spielberg y protagonizada por Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover y Thomas F. Wilson. Relata las aventuras de Marty McFly, un adolescente rebelde e impulsivo que vive con sus padres y viaja accidentalmente al pasado desde 1985, su época, a 1955, la época en que sus padres se conocieron. Finalmente, cambia los hechos específicos de la línea original de tiempo en que sus padres se conocieron y enamoraron. Debido a esto, Marty debe recurrir a la ayuda del Dr. Emmett Brown para reunir a sus padres de nuevo, asegurando su propia existencia y la de sus hermanos.
Emmett Brown es un científico y el mejor amigo del protagonista de la serie, Marty McFly (interpretado por Michael J. Fox). Nacido en el ficticio pueblo de Hill Valley, California, en 1914, se define como "estudiante de todas las ciencias" (lo que le afirma en la tercera película) y pasa gran parte de su tiempo inventando diversos artefactos, entre los que destaca la máquina del tiempo, construida sobre la carrocería de un automóvil deportivo llamado DMC DeLorean, que motiva las peripecias de Back to the Future.

Entre sus ídolos se cuentan: Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison y Albert Einstein, todos ellos retratados y encuadrados encima de la chimenea de su salón. En 1955 tiene un perro llamado Copérnico y más tarde, en 1985, otro llamado Einstein.

La gente de Hill Valley lo ve como un extraño, un excéntrico, e incluso como un loco, por ello tiene pocos amigos (el único, realmente, es Marty McFly). Sin embargo, cuida mucho de la gente que está cerca de él. No creía en el "amor a primera vista", pero termina enamorándose en su primer encuentro con la profesora Clara Clayton, a quien conoce en 1885, cuando viaja al pasado. Con ella se casa y tienen dos hijos: Julio y Verne (en referencia a Julio Verne, autor favorito de Clara y Emmett en la película).

Le gusta el jazz, las novelas de Julio Verne y las películas del oeste. No suele beber alcohol, ya que le afecta de forma desmedida, como se puede apreciar en Back to the Future Part III. Es alérgico a las fibras sintéticas.

Doc es capaz de modificar y construir cualquier tipo de máquina. Fue capaz de crear un gran refrigerador en 1885 (aunque su proceso de trabajo es aparatoso y complicado) y fue un éxito el funcionamiento de una máquina del tiempo que construyó a partir de una locomotora de vapor, que aparece al final de la tercera película.

It tells the adventures of Marty McFly, a rebellious and impulsive teenager who lives with his parents and accidentally travels back in time from 1985, his time, to 1955, the time when his parents met. Finally, he changes the specific events of the original timeline in which his parents met and fell in love. Because of this, Marty must enlist the help of Dr. Emmett Brown to reunite his parents again, ensuring his own existence and that of his siblings.
Emmett Brown is a scientist and the best friend of the series' protagonist, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox). Born in the fictional town of Hill Valley, California, in 1914, he defines himself as a "student of all sciences" (what he claims in the third film) and spends much of his time inventing various artifacts, among which the time machine, built on the body of a sports car called DMC DeLorean, which motivates the adventures of Back to the Future.

Among his idols are: Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein, all of them portrayed and framed above the fireplace in his living room. In 1955 he had a dog named Copernicus and later, in 1985, another named Einstein.

The people of Hill Valley see him as a stranger, an eccentric, and even crazy, which is why he has few friends (the only one, really, is Marty McFly). However, he takes great care of the people around him. He did not believe in "love at first sight", but he ends up falling in love in his first meeting with Professor Clara Clayton, whom he meets in 1885, when he travels to the past. He marries her and they have two children: Julio and Verne (in reference to Jules Verne, Clara and Emmett's favorite author in the film).

He likes jazz, Jules Verne novels and western movies. He does not usually drink alcohol, as it affects him excessively, as can be seen in Back to the Future Part III. He is allergic to synthetic fibers.

Doc is capable of modifying and building any type of machine. He was able to create a large refrigerator in 1885 (although his work process is cumbersome and complicated) and the operation of a time machine that he built from a steam locomotive, which appears at the end of the third film, was a success.
