I create a modular lightbox for 10x7.5cm lithophanes. With this model you can create any lithophane collage.
To hold the lithophanes I made 2 possible mechanisms:
With magnets (5x2mm). It makes possible change pictures or picture position.
Without magnets, to glue. (Also tolerence should be enough to not use glue, but not as effective as magnets)
There are two different models.
Row:
You will need x2 row_lateral
As many row_center as you wish. There is also an option with a hole in case you want to connect leds externally.
As many frames as you need (with or without magnets)
x2 connectors per connection between pieces.
I added in profiles a project for a 3x1 with both frame options and the hole option.
Matrix: Scalable at any size from 2x2. In an example of 3x3 you will need:
x2 Matrix_Corner_Left (option available with hole)
x2 Matrix_Corner_Right
x2 Matrix_Frame_horizontal (option available with hole)
x2 Matrix_Frame_Vertical
x1 Matrix_Centre
x9 frame (with our without magnets)
x24 connectors
I added in profiles a project for a 3x3 with both frame options and the hole option. (In pictures there is the example of 2x2)
I also upload a profile with all the pieces, and you can select and clone what you need.
For assembly:
Locate all the box pieces to to have clear view how to glue them.
Glue all the box pieces using the connectors.
Glue magnets if used. Take care that magnets are added correctly so frame and box do not repel.
Optional glue lithophane to the frame.
Add any led you want.
To create the lithophanes I use https://itslitho.com/. . Apply a Black&white filter to the picture before upload for better result. You have to use the following parameters:
It's important to have the crop option enabled in case the picture have different aspect ratio the application will take a crop with the correct ratio to fit the model.
For Lithophane printing I recommend, printing vertically, 0.12mm layer height, 6 perimeters and brim. I upload a profile with an example.
I suppose it can be scaled to use bigger lithophanes, but i havent tried it.
