3D model description

A modular hobby paint rack designed for low print costs and easy assembly.

I designed this after looking for something to print, but either the designs were too bulky, difficult to scale, took up too much space, or had other flaws that I couldn't work with. I did find a few designs I liked, but for some reason they were all designed by individuals that own printers with 300mm or larger print beds so they made their designs fit those instead of the more common 225-235mm beds. And unfortunately those designs were such that it was nearly impossible to refactor them for the smaller beds without having to glue parts together.

So I spent several hours putting together this design so that it would be easy to print, expandable, and sturdy. I hope you enjoy it! Let me know if you have any issues or requests.

Now, on to the design overview.

There are 3 basic designs that each consist of a shelf and two uprights. The shelves and uprights are designed for each other with regard to the height spacing between the shelves so that the bottles fit well without wasting space.

The shelves included in the design are for 25mm bottles (Vallejo, Army Painter, and similar dropper style bottles), 30mm bottles (Badger, Micromark, etc), and 35mm bottles (craft paint, acrylics).

The shelves have notches in them to make it easy to pop the bottle out. You can place the bottles in the shelves either cap up or cap down. The shelves and uprights fit together using dovetail joints.

All 3 shelf sizes are the same width, so you can stack different shelves on each other or mix them in the uprights. For example, I have one section that has 2 sizes of bottles in it since I only needed 2 shelves for the one size.

When assembled the uprights can be clipped together both vertically to stack them and horizontally to make a wider unit. The feet are designed to work with either a single upright or two clipped together. Everything is friction/gravity fit so no glue is necessary, which also means you can easily add to an existing unit or rearrange it if you decide.

If there are fitment issues with the clips you can scale them up (or down) in your slicer, but you should only need to do this if your printer isn't calibrated properly. If you do need to scale, you will likely only need to go 1%-2% in either direction. Do not scale the uprights, just the clips.
