3D printing settings

Layer Height:

Use a layer height of around 0.1mm to 0.2mm for small prints. This layer height provides a good balance between detail and speed.

Print Speed:

Printing at a moderate speed (30-50 mm/s) helps maintain accuracy and detail in small prints.
Printing Temperature:

PLA typically prints well at temperatures between 190Β°C and 220Β°C. Start with the lower end of this range for better detail and reduce the risk of stringing.
Build Plate Temperature:

You can often print PLA without a heated build plate for small prints, especially if you're using a good-quality build surface like a glass bed with a layer of painter's tape or a specialized print surface.
Cooling Fan:

Use an active cooling fan at a moderate setting (around 50-100%) to ensure that each layer solidifies quickly, preventing overheating and warping.
Infill:

Small prints typically do not require high infill percentages. You can often use 10-20% infill for structural integrity while saving on material.
Supports:

Depending on the geometry of your small print, you may or may not need supports. Simple models with minimal overhangs may not require supports.
Retraction:

Configure retraction settings to minimize stringing. A retraction distance of around 1mm to 4mm and a retraction speed of 40-60 mm/s should work well.
Wall Thickness:

A wall thickness of 2 or 3 walls (0.8mm to 1.2mm) can provide good strength and detail for small prints.
Nozzle Size:

A standard 0.4mm nozzle is usually sufficient for most small prints. Smaller nozzles can be used for finer details but may increase print time significantly.
Print Orientation:

Consider the orientation of your small print on the build plate to minimize overhangs and optimize surface quality. Sometimes, rotating or tilting the model can help.
Brim or Raft:

For small prints, using a brim (a few extra layers around the base) can enhance bed adhesion without the need for glue. A raft may also help for challenging prints.
