Description

Benchy in a Storm

Note: Unfortunately, due to the licence associated with the ‘Benchy', I am not allowed to upload an STL or 3MF file that includes a ‘modified’ Benchy. However, I have included an unmodified Benchy STL, the hueforge print STL, along with detailed instructions on how to produce this print.

This is a combined style print, utilising both classic 3D printing and filament painting methods to produce this 2-in-1 'pop-art' effect type of print.

This print is essentially a hueforge print, swapping filament colours at specific layers, but with a twist! You will be adding a 'Benchy' (STL attached) to your print, and you can modify this however you want!

I have provided the STL of the Benchy, but you can download it from the source here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:763622

Steps to Print

  1. Load the 'benchyWave' STL into your slicer.
  2. Load the '3DBenchy' STL into your slicer.
  3. In your slicer, place the Benchy STL wherever you want on the benchyWave STL.
  4. You will want to 'cut' the Benchy in half so that only part of it pops out of the print. But it is up to your imagination how you want to orient and place it!
  5. Assemble your print so both the Benchy and the benchyWave STLs are merged together.
  6. Set your filament swaps for the benchyWave STL according to the instructions below.
  7. If your slicer allows, you can change the infill % for JUST the Benchy model to 5%.

Filament Swap Instructions

Print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.16mm

Filaments Used:

  • PLA+ Overture Dark Blue Transmission Distance: 1.8
  • PLA META Sunlu Teal Transmission Distance: 5.4
  • PLA Kingroon White Transmission Distance: 8
  • PLA META Sunlu Red Transmission Distance: 4 (This is the colour of your Benchy!)

Swap Instructions:

  • Start with Dark Blue
  • At layer #9 (0.8mm) swap to Teal
  • At layer #12 (1.04mm) swap to White
  • At layer #18 (1.52mm) swap to Red (this is your Benchy!) for the rest.

Hope that makes sense! Please let me know if anything needs clarification!

Where can I find the original image of the Storm? I might need to alter my layers due to different TDs of my colors. Thanks.
