Description

Turn almost any cupboard into filament storage.

Bookcase? Filament storage!

Wardrobe? Filament storage!

Sink cabinet? Filament storage!

This project is compatible with almost any cupboard, bookcase or cabinet that have rows of holes on the inside for adjustable shelves.

It is non-destructive, you won't have to drill new holes, just use the existing ones.

You will need some kind of pipe or rod that is stable enough to hold a couple Kgs of Filament and not bend. Personally I think polished copper looks the most pleasing, but you can also use steel or PVC pipe.

Aluminium pipe is very cheap (roughtly 3€ per meter), just make sure the material is thick enought. 1mm thick aluminium pipe with 10mm diameter was not rigid enough in testing.

I provide a couple of models that fit various pipe sizes for IKEA Pax, IKEA Metod, IKEA Billy and IKEA Liantorp.

But you can also download the Fusion 360 project file and adjust the parameters to fit your exact cupboard.

Measure the distance between the center of two holes on the side of your cupboards inner walls. Set the pin_distance variable accordingly. Set the pipe_diameter variable to the diameter of pipe your are using. Increase pipe_tolerance if the fit is too tight.

You will need to cut the pipes to a length that corresponds to the inner width of your cupboards minus 4mm. The fits has to be fairly tight, as this is important for strength.

As the shelves use the existing holes on the inside of the cupboard, you can mount them at any height and as many as can fit.

I printed the brackets in white PLA. So far it seems strong enough. You can use PETG if you feel more comfortable with it.

BOM (per shelf):

  • two pipes cut to size (4mm smaller than the inner width of your cupboard)
  • four M3 x 16mm screws for the pins.

Recommendations:

  • Print this model with at least 5 walls for strength
  • Infill 33% Gyroid
  • 7 top/bottom layers

What is a pin_distance, pipe_diameter, and pipe_tolerance variable? I opened it up in F360 but I can't say I've ever seen those before.
