Description

This is a replacement for the awful button style water dispenser in some Whirlpool refrigerators. There are two models attached, a “standard” and a “extra." The standard one may not depress the button due to flex in the model based on the materials used, so the extra has a bit extra protrusion to press the button.

overall part printed well. issues with the part itself is it gets in the way of the drawer and water gets everywhere when you stop pushing the button because you can not collect the extra water that keeps coming afterwards.

Unsure about hitting the drawer (that doesn't seem to conflict in mine), but try the non "extra" profile so you have more control time over the button being pressed to catch the last drops.

I printed this and it is a great idea and solution to a problem that Whirlpool should have thought of. My drawer does hit it however. I'm planning on just cutting off about an inch from the bottom as to not have to print it again. (It took about 22 hours to complete)

Great file. Have used it on our refrigerator for about a month, love the ease of filling cups and hydroflasks.

Other Issues:When the door closes, it makes the water dispense. I printed the “extra” and after you’ve filled your cup, the water dribbles all over the fridge. lol great idea though.

The extra depth works well for activating the button with basic PLA, but then the bottom part of the piece is in the way by the time the water button in deactivated. Perhaps the standard depth with a stiffer filament will be the right choice.

I spent a lot of time trying to get it rigid enough though there's not a ton of space left to add material. Perhaps a PLA+ might work better. Appreciate the feedback.

Did not work for me and my fridge. The issue is the top tab. My fridge has that part flat there, and there is a socket just above that the trim piece fits in.

Thanks for posting this. Some follow up q's.. 1) You mention choosing the print based on material, what material was the standard version based on? 2) Are the files you posted exactly how it was printed? I ask this because I'm using an ender 3 v2 and creality slicer. The back side parts don't touch the bed and I was hoping to avoid using supports, but I'm struggling to get it to print without them. 3) Any additional printer settings worth sharing? I'm pretty new to this whole thing. Cheers!

PLA or PETG both have some flex in them just given the compliant hinge mechanism. The files are exactly as printed, you will need supports though as mentioned: .20mm Standard 100% Rectilinear Infill Tree (Auto/Hybrid) Supports (Reduce Small Overhangs) Auto Brim Classic Wall Generator Print diagonally across the bed to prevent additional supports
