Description

3d miniature of Tokyo, Japan!

Model created in Blender using the Blosm addon.

Check out my collection of other miniature cities: https://makerworld.com/en/u/1935755220/collections/146964

Tokyo was definitely the hardest miniature city so far! OSM data was missing probably ~30% of 3d building data which I manually tried to add-in using Google Earth as a reference. I tried my best to make sure all missing buildings were re-added and buildings with incorrect height were fixed. In addition, trying to select an area of Tokyo that fits inside my printable frame was incredibly challenging due to how massive Tokyo is! I hope to make a larger version in the future with more of Tokyo included.

In the meantime Let me know if you notice anything specific missing!

Printing & Slicing Details

This model was designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.16mm layer heights.

Try using a 0.2mm nozzle (0.08mm layer heights) or scaling up for even finer detail!

Note: If roads or other small details disappear after slicing, try lowering the extrusion/line width of external perimeters (outer walls) closer to 0.4mm OR use Arachne walls (can also enable “Detect Thin Walls”).

Framing Details

This model measures almost exactly 6.7in by 4.7in (170.5mm X 119.5mm) and should fit most 5x7 frames (assuming frame lip/overlap is around a quarter inch). Feel free to change the scale/size of the model(s) to meet your needs.

Personally I use these cheap frames from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C8HY7YSQ

And blue printer paper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IDQT

I also included a fully printable frame (including a 1mm thick water plate) designed to fit all my miniature cities.

Gif of the Printable Frame

A frame is not required! This model looks great by itself and can be displayed almost anywhere.

Failing to slice. Using Bambu

Please retry on a desktop computer as Bambu Handy cloud slicing seems to time out very quickly when processing complex models.

Hello! If possible, could you possibly provide some more info on how you are slicing the file? Are you using the "Designer Profile" or are you trying to slice the included raw .STL files? Additionally, are you receiving any specific error messages? Any screenshots would be especially helpful! Thanks!

I’m trying the designer profile, any time I attempt the print, it says “failed to slice” and cancels, I don’t know how to fix it.

Are you using Bambu Studio or another slicing software? This model includes non-manifold edges which I know can cause issues with certain slicers (especially Cura).

Hello! have you tried printing from a desktop computer? the current version of the Bambu Handy app seemingly cannot support complex models such as this one.
