3D model description

This is a case for the Wemos D1 Mini (https://wiki.wemos.cc/products:d1:d1_mini) plus its TFT 2.4 Touch Shield (https://wiki.wemos.cc/products:d1_mini_shields:tft_2.4_shield). This was intended for landscape mode, but I only have a demo working in portrait mode, so that is shown in the pictures.

There are two versions: Type1 and Type2. Type1 has a main case, a footplate, and a microUSB shim. Type2 has just the main case and footplate for a right-angle USB cable.

Credits: To create this I used an excellent D1 model by Patrick M. on 3dwarehouse (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/8ccc7775-dbd3-4002-8f46-8938fc0ba0e1/Wemos-D1-Mini). That's a v2, so the reset button location is not accurate in my design.

So the problem with this stackup is powering the device. I wanted the plug to be hidden, but I didn't have a nice 90-degree-down microUSB cable to plug directly into the D1. I did have some microUSB connector breakouts, so I devised a way to mount that little one-cm-square board perpendicular to the D1, pointing out the back. There is an extra C-shaped shim which receives that board, screws it down, and constrains it inside the body. This makes up the Type1 case.

Since you might have the correct cable, there is a Type2 design too. The main body has the cutout centered around the D1 USB port, and the footplate has a large void to hopefully fit the cable. Since I don't have that cable, it's a WAG though. Let me know if it doesn't fit.

Another complication is that during one print of my type1, my case curled up off the print bed, so that the D1 assembly didn't slide down completely into the main case. It protruded about 1mm. Since the footplate can accommodate some recessed space, I made a version of the plate with a void to cover the protruding board. It has supports built-in. I only made this for the type1 though. Let me know if you need the same design for the type2.

All done in my old copy of Sketchup.

Edit: Added a couple of footplates for use in portrait orientation. There's a type1 (for the usb breakout style) and a type2 with a large opening for a right-angle connector.

Update: Added a version with a 1/2" speaker slot in the back. This slot fits this:

I finally got around to using my 2.4" TFT shields en masse. It went so well I tried to order more, but they seem not to exist anymore! :(

Update (200704): TFTs are back in stock on the LOLIN store on AliExpress.
