Description

Semi-disposable water/coffee cup

Having run out, over the weekend in the site office this is a temporary solution for a disposable or semi disposable dinking cup.

While the base has a 15% infill the walls of the cup have two skins with zero infill between, this is to act as an insulator but also to allow contraction of the interior wall with hot liquids. This works ok with a Nespresso machine as the liquid is below 80C when output. That said the interior layer will distort and would not recommend its used for more than two or three uses, much like a paper cup.

For just cold water its fine, however its worth being aware of the risks when printing objects for use with food or drink. do not assume that all plastic is safe.

WARNING:

  • PLA & PETG are not recommended for hot liquids this model should not be used for liquids over 90C anything over at 65C or above will result in a softening of the plastic and is done at the user’s own risk.
  • Not all plastics are food and drink safe, and even if a plastic is food and drink safe contamination from a printer that has been printing other plastics can be an issue (please consider this if you are printing anything to be used with food or drink)
  • PLA is not totally biodegradable and throwing plastic away including PLA contributes to microplastics in the environment and landfill, the above is a short term solution.
