3D model description

I constructed a switcher box designed to manage two external controllable guitar pedal preamps using either a standard FS2 footswitch or a DSP/MIDI device (such as Headrush, Line 6 Helix, MIDI controller pedals, etc.) through the external amp socket. This preamp switcher box enables you to effortlessly switch between two preamps and utilize all the channels they offer, utilizing only one device—be it a footswitch or a pre-programmed DSP/MIDI controller.

The two preamps are connected in series. The left switch selects channels 1/2 simultaneously for both preamps, while the right switch alternately activates and bypasses the preamps. Pressing the right button switches the active preamp, bypassing the one that was previously active, and vice versa.

To construct this device, you will need the following:

  1. 4-Way Relay Module:
Order a 4-way relay module from a reputable website.

  2. TRS socket:
Order three 1/4" (6.3mm) TRS sockets with a similar form:
    https://www.amazon.com/Switchcraft-Stereo-3-Conductor-Double-Circuit/dp/B07F6QWJN1

  3. 3D Printing:
Print the 3D files for the selector box and cover.

  4. Wiring:
Follow the wiring diagram for accurate installation.

The relay modules come in various voltage versions, providing flexibility in choosing the appropriate power supply for your panel. Your decision depends on your specific requirements. For instance, I opted for a USB cable as my power supply, given that I selected the 5V version of the relay module.

  1. Screws: Acquire screws to secure the relay module inside the box and to attach the cover.

P1: Connect to Preamp 1's remote switch socket (e.g., Victory V4 The Sheriff).
P2: Connect to Preamp 2's remote switch socket (e.g., Victory V4 The Jack).
EXT.: Connect to the FS2 footswitch/relay-controlled external amp socket output (e.g., Headrush, Helix, FCB1010, etc.). For my setup, it's connected to Laney FS2.

Always use stereo cables with TRS jacks.

This device is compatible with a range of preamps, including those from Victory V4, Diezel, and Bogner preamp pedals, equipped with an external remote control input (TRS jack). One switch is dedicated to selecting the channel/boost of the pedal, while the other is designed to bypass the pedal. Experience the full range of sounds offered by your pedal preamps through a single external amp controller.
