UPDATE: Just a quick update. So far the mod has been working well. I've had a couple of purge back-ups but usually when printing larger parts with a lot of material changes and printing at ludicrous speed. not to mention my “default” speed is usuallt set to around 500 anyhow. So when I go to ludicrous, I'm pretty much hitting the “plaid boundary”, lol.
I was experiencing issues with waste filament accumulating in the 'poop chute,' not just with this design but also with other enclosed chute designs.
This problem was twofold. Firstly, the default calculations by BambuStudio tend to overestimate the purge amounts, resulting in excess purged filament. Secondly, the relatively small space in an enclosed chute exacerbates the issue.
I absolutely love emazzarol's drawer design. However, I felt that by making the chute slightly deeper (by 30%) and adding a 'plunger hole' at the top, coupled with calibrating my purge volumes through some research, I could eliminate this problem.
By addressing the problem from both angles and deepening the chute, I've given myself the flexibility to increase purge volumes for specific prints when necessary, without worrying about clogging.
The addition of a hole at the top of the chute allows me to use a dowel or another long rod to push any accumulated filament down the chute. This prevents the need to detach the chute and drop the waste behind the printer and table it's sitting on, thus keeping the process cleaner and containing the waste in the drawer, as the designer intended.
I modified the following files:
I increased the X-axis dimension by 30% to 130%, added a negative cylinder to the Upper Rear Poop Pipe for the hole, and then sliced it.
So far, so good. This adjustment, combined with the new flushing volumes, should prevent me from having to remove and empty the pipe.
