Description

BeadBoss Desiccant Sieve for Bambu AMS and Filament Dry Systems

Updates

2023-12-26: Link to BeadBoss “UnderTray” made by cgpro_. Thanks, @cgpro_ !

  • The UnderTray will catch the undersized beads and dust without having to shake-and-sieve over a can or box, and complements BeadBoss very well!
  • I was thinking about making one of these for BeadBoss, myself. Now I don't have to. :-)

2023-12-15: Version 2

Updated to Version 2: Multiple Sieve Sizes Now Available

  1. 3MF File updated to include 5 plates, each with version that has a different sieve size
  2. Select the sieve gap size you need for your bead size or if you want finer-particulate sieving
  3. Plates include:
    1. 2.00 mm (Original BeadBoss - sized for nominal 4mm beads)
    2. 1.75 mm
    3. 1.50 mm
    4. 1.25 mm
    5. 1.00 mm

Purpose

BeadBoss ensures that only larger-sized desiccant beads make it to your Automatic Material System (AMS), preventing the smaller fragments and dust from causing havoc and mucking it up ("mucking" is a technical term).

What is BeadBoss?

BeadBoss is a sieve designed to pre-filter your desiccant, eliminating tiny particles and broken pieces that could escape through container vents and contaminate your AMS.

Why BeadBoss?

Dry filament is crucial for high-quality 3D printing. We have desiccant containers anywhere space is available inside the AMS Dry Box. We have containers that fit between the AMS stage feeders. We have containers in the AMS's silca trays. We have containers built into spool hubs. And we have containers anywhere else we can think of that dries the air inside the AMS! These are highly effective, and many would say essential, bringing the relative humidity down to 10% or less inside the AMS where filament remains for long periods, maintaining exceedingly dry conditions within.

Key Features

  • Angled walls to contain beads during sieving
  • A funnel exit for easy transfer to desiccant holders
  • Simple shake-and-sieve operation to filter out unwanted fragments

Usage

Pour beads into BeadBoss, shake over a receptacle, and watch as only the desirable, large beads remain. The rest? They're caught and discarded, never to bother your AMS.

Use with Confidence

Give your AMS the care it deserves with BeadBoss, and keep your filament dry without the mess or stress.

The print came out great! The nozzle is pretty clever. I always collect the little desiccant packets and cut them open. After a few months I have a jar full. Just as an idea: Make a little tray that can Clip on the sieve to collect the little desiccant pieces, because they bounce everywhere.. 😂

Thanks, it looks great! Thanks for the photo. And yes, I thought about maybe a "beneath" tray also. I've just been shake-n-sieving over a small trash can, though. But yes, an underneath tray would make it fully self-contained and with the added benefit of admiring all the tiny fragments and being happy they won't make it into your AMS. :-) I'm glad it's useful to you!

Good idea. What is the width of the slots?

Thanks! Slot width is 2mm. I experimented with multiple sizes and found that 2mm is the sweet spot for filtering out the smaller fragments and ensuring that none small enough to slip through the slats in most desiccant containers get through.

OK. Reason I ask is that I use the smaller blue beads which are 2mm in diameter. They're more effective than the larger orange beads as they have a larger surface area for the same volume of beads so reduce the humidity more quickly. Any chance of making a version with 1.5mm slots?
