Description

This is a one sixth scale classic Dalek from Doctor Who!

This is designed to be printed using a multi-colour 3D printer, such as a bambulab, prusa, or any of the new printers coming out with the ability to print with multiple materials at the time of writing. That said, if you want, you can put all the parts into a single colour printer and then paint after the fact, have fun.

To assemble, each part has been split into pieces which correspond to different potential colours. So you bring in parts that have the same name except for the number at the end. To print the eye for example, you would want to bring in the following files:
Dalek_Eye_colour_1.stl
Dalek_Eye_colour_2.stl
Dalek_Eye_colour_3.stl
Dalek_Eye_colour_4.stl

These don't have to all be assigned to different colours if you have a printer that can only print up to two colours, or if you want to remix how things are done. For example, in the pictured dalek, I only used black and grey for pretty much everything except the dome and eye, although you can use any colours or any number of colours that you want.

Also included is the .3mf file from when I printed the dalek on my bambulab printer so you can see how I set it up and sliced.

To assemble the dalek, it has been designed so that each section can bolt together using M3 nuts and bolts. There are two extra unused attachment points at the base of the dalek skirt, should you want to design some sort of interior or mechanical element of your own to allow for easy mounting.

The dalek was designed at one sixth scale to match the figures made by Big Chief Studios. However, should you want it bigger at one fifth scale to match the larger Character Options figures, you can simply scale all the parts by a factor of 1.2, a one fouth scale dalek would need everything to be scaled up by a factor of 1.5. At these scales though, M3 bolts will not be the correct size to hold the dalek together, and you will need to source alternative fittings.

Recolored and only have the shoulder part printed thus far, but brilliant.... Now it's all printed and assembled. Prints very nicely / easily and well designed to make assembly a snap. Well, would have been a snap if my hands weren't so big... took some doing to get some of those M3 screws going. Would love to know a little about how you went about designing it. Here's pics of Dalek Red. All in matte PLA. Dalek Red tried to exterminate albino Frosty in the 3rd pic, but the Rocktopus is arriving to save the day.

Will do! Going great so far -- now have the neck rings and the skirt finished too. Dome printing now. By the way, if you change the dome plate to print "by object" and auto-arrange, you can avoid most of the filament swaps -- cuts print time in half and drastically reduces waste.

Excellent model, easy enough to print. Only challenges were some bed adhesion but those were all on my end.

Came out pretty good. The middle body shifted during printing (poop shoot clogged causing the cover of hotend to pop off. But not horrible. Gotta say, one of the longest prints I've done so far on the P1S. I have a small remote control car that I may try to fit inside to make it move. :)

That's a truly awesome colour scheme! I'd love to see it zooming around (the two unused bolt bits at the bottom are for mounting to RC stuff), so please share if you do put an RC car in it :D

I've always wanted to print a Dalek and I couldn't pass up this model. Fun to print and makes a great showpiece. I did alter the head as I like the old style "eyes" more but I'm going to print the newer version too so I can swap out the heads. I added some color detail to the middle section which took that piece a whopping 27 hours to print by itself! I used Inland True Red, Elegoo Matte Black, Duramic Gray, Sunlu Pure Yellow and Sky Blue.
