3D model description

This is a custom 32P spur gear compatible with the Vaterra Glamis Uno and Glamis Fear. The original spur gear and its slipper pads are now impossible to come across, so instead of shelving your Glamis, you can use this gear.

This uses Arrma 4x4 slipper pads [ARA310994] as well as the original Vaterra slipper plates and hub. The attached assembly diagram should show how to assemble the new gear and Arrma pads with the existing hardware.

I chose 32P to make the teeth stronger and more wear-resistant, so you will need to get a new 32P pinion for your motor as well. It meshes well with existing 32P pinions already on the market.

Please note that long-term reliability will be spotty, because 3D-printed gears under this much load and stress will not last very long. Therefore I highly recommend a strong material such as nylon. I used MatterHackers 'NylonX' which is a blend with carbon fiber. Prusament CF nylon is another good choice. Besides prototypes with MatterHackers Ryno, a modified PET, I have not tested this gear with another material. I think you might have some luck with ABS or ASA as well, but that's pure speculation.

Enjoy!

3D printing settings

I have had best luck with overall quality and ease of support removal by printing the gear face-down, with the back of the gear (bearing side) facing up, but feel free to experiment. Use a fine resolution for sake of gear tooth quality and better layer adhesion.
