Description

I present to you my Christmas Ferris wheel which will brighten up your Christmas decor.

She runs on these wheels.

You will need 4 608 RS bearings and glue to assemble certain parts

for all parts except the decor I advise you to print in 0.2 with 5% infill, this is sufficient

A 25x25 plate is necessary

If you reduce the size of the wheel the bearings will no longer fit

11/27: add a V2 of a wheel

Nice design, pleasing to look at. Had some trouble with printing and assembly. The scrollwork in the wheels is floating in mid air, if you add supports, it would be very difficult to remove them without breakage. I added a solid backing and changed the scrollwork to satin red. Backing printed with concentric top pattern which gives a nice faceted gold look. Legs do not fit in the base holes so I made small adapters. I could not get the front gold scroll to print, some sections are too small to make it through the slicer, printed it at 200%. Buckets printed with a single tree support for the end of the hook. Skate bearings hard to insert and not really needed. Ended up nice, but was a lot more work than I expected.

Thanks for your feedback. I added a version of the wheel with a plate behind it. regarding the placement of the feet, I deliberately made it wider so that a printer other than Bambu Lab, perhaps less precise, could fit the feet in without problems. It certainly works without bearing, but with bearing it works better.

This model came out looking good, but I had numerous issues. From the top, the poles spanning across the wheels didn't fit right. I had to cut the ends of each in order to wedge it in without breaking the wheel (Which is very fragile). Due to the orientation of the poles, the baskets didn't freely spin when the wheel rotated. I had to file out the center of the clip, and oil the joints. The baskets also printed with tree supports that when removed snapped the clip on two baskets. The wheels themselves had a TON of supports where they shouldn't have been needed at all. I feel like that side could have been designed to print flat on the plate. The pin that goes through the center snapped immediately. I increased infill to 15% and printed it horizontally, which fixed my issue. I didn't need 4 bearings, I was able to get by with only 2. The ones in the center are redundant in my opinion since the entire wheel should be rotating together, but independent of the frame. The frame legs printed great. The base had several spots with holes due to the low infill and low number of top layers. The railing was an absolute nightmare. I printed it 4 times all together. Finally, what worked was printing at 50% speed, with snug supports only, and bridge flow reduced to 0.96. Otherwise, these snapped the second I flexed the build plate. I had to finely remove them with a box cutter flush against the build plate so as not to bend the railing. The decorative pieces could have all been printed on some sort of flat border and glued into place on the base in my opinion. In fact, if you had split the entire base, you could have printed one half with the decorative pieces already on it and saved a lot of headache. Overall, the model looks cool, but printing and assembly was terrible in my opinion.

A few well placed pin holes for the fences would be an improvement. The gold part under the wreaths did not even print in one piece. In fact all of the "Decoration" should have been printed on red slabs with an inset on the base to place them. But since the walls are so thin you really can't have an inset.

I'm going to add a comment with photos because I find that to be the best form of feedback. Unfortunately, I can't honestly rate this profile greater than 3 stars, but I'm going to explain why. I haven't finished the model yet, so I will leave a model specific comment when its' done. The print came out OK, but the build plate was a nightmare to clean. I used a textured plate, but I wasn't expecting a rat's nest of a raft underneath. What I recommend for future print profiles is that sections like this have the decorative design flat against the build plate as well as the wheel and eliminate the need for supports all together. The intent of the project is to be used as a display piece, so the inside lip of the wheel doesn't necessarily NEED to be elevated like that. I see the appeal, but I would aim for better printability. With that said, the model does look really cool and I still intend to finish it. I'll post photos of the sections of the wheel I'm not thrilled with, and I'll share photos when the project is complete.
