ML-8

ML-8, Mina-Trap, is a discharge mine created in the 1980s. The ML-8 mine is produced in the Russian Federation and is in service with the Russian army. The purpose of these mines corresponds to the purpose of the ML-7 mine - installation of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines for non-removability and mining of military and household items. The mine is installed in the ground. When installing a mine, there is one situation - if, after transferring the mine to the firing position and the expiration of the response time of the long-range cocking mechanism, the necessary load does not appear on the mine sensor to hold the sensor target, then the mine, due to this design, self-neutralizes (this mine, again, is beneficial different from its predecessor).

Structurally, the ML-8 mine consists of:

• a plastic case where the explosive charge is placed;

• a fuse fuse of the unloading action type, a trigger mechanism designed to ensure the safety of the fuse in the transport position and transfer it to the firing position;

• a pyrotechnic retarder, which ensures arming of the fuse after 120 - 150 seconds from the moment of switching on, depending on the ambient temperature and acting as a long-range arming mechanism;

• a cocking mechanism designed to transfer the mine to a firing position to maintain the long-range cocking time;

• a safety-actuating mechanism that ensures that the mine is triggered when an object mounted on it is removed;

• a safety-detonating mechanism designed to ensure that the fire chain of the mine is broken in the transport position.

Installing the ML-8 mine is quite safe. From the moment the nylon thread is pulled out until the fuse is activated, 2 - 2.5 minutes pass. From the moment the nylon thread is pulled out of the ML-8, moving it back to a safe position is impossible. As the ML-8 slows down, it will go into combat mode. If by this moment there is no load on it, then the ML-8 will self-neutralize. The fact is that after working out the long-range cocking time, the pyrotechnic stopper releases the combat rod, which from that moment is held by the firing pin only because the target sensor cover presses on it. If there is no load, the cover rotates and raises the firing rod, which releases the firing pin. The striker goes forward and blocks the movement of the engine with the capsule, which occurs only 2 seconds after the pyrotechnic stopper releases the firing rod. This is to ensure the safety of the ML-8 if it was not configured correctly (i.e., was not loaded at the time of installation) or if its rotations were incorrect. Those. ML-8, brought into combat position without load on it, is inoperative.
