Description

MedalDisplay is a system of 3D printable parts to make custom sized display cases for all your stuff. After the success of the original MedalDisplay Hex, I bring you…

MedalDisplay 4D. Tired of 3D Printing? Then Welcome to 4D Printing

One. Two. Three. Four! Count 'em, FOUR Sides, that's FOUR DIMENSIONS of Free, Open Source, and Modular Display Case for your wall or desk!

Features include but not limited to:

  • Free!
  • H̶e̶x̶a̶g̶o̶n̶a̶l̶ Get outta here hexagons, now we're in FOUR DIMENSIONS (Squares and Rectangles)
  • Modular and Open Source, Anyone can make an add-on or customize for MedalDisplay
  • Fully 3D Printable, no hardware required (Glue recommended though for larger setups)
  • No supports at all!
  • Portrait and Landscape Orientations, BOTH if you make it square, or neither. I'm not the boss of you.
  • Fits on any FDM printer bed, all parts tested on a P1P, A1 Mini, and Ender 3
  • Print a full display in under 20 hours on a stock Bambu P1P/A1 or under 60 hours on an Ender 3
  • Thousands of downloads across all platforms for the hexagonal display, I've even included some community builds at the bottom

and also:

  • Optional Spacer for LED Strips, Acrylic, or Both. (Coming soon to the hex as well)
  • More Holes for added modularity. Glued up a display and then decided you want to add more later? There's now an alternate set of holes for this in the frame.
  • Fully compatible with the original MedalDisplay files. You can have half a hexagon and half a square (using this connector here) and no one can tell you otherwise
  • After consulting with the Council of Shapes, All Future releases will be compatible with both Hex and 4D as well.

In the Zip File you will find a neat folder structure with all parts as well as text files and diagrams with information on what each part does and other key information.

A standard Small MedalDisplay 4D is sized as follows

  • External Dimensions 215mm x 215mm (8.4" x 8.4")
  • Internal Dimensions 158mm x 158mm (6.2" x 6.2")
  • Each set of straight frame pieces adds 90mm (3.5")

Here's a build video for the Hex one, and the new 4D Quick Build below it.

This Project is Open Source. If you would like to add anything to it or modify it, feel free to do so, but please ensure you link back to the original files here so people know that it belongs to this open source project.

MedalDisplay is 100% Free. However if you'd like to support me, feel free to buy me a coffee

do you think this will be pretty stable if I make a display case around 2ft x 2ft x 3ft? with acrylic panels and lighting

hey there as long as you use glue on the joints and spread out the mounting evenly acrylic will help keep it nice and square are you saying 2ft wide 2ft tall and 3ft deep? will it be wall mounted or standing on something? I’ve never made one so deep before, so I’m just not sure to be honest I’ve got one that’s 6ft wide 1ft tall but quite shallow the deepest one I have is 2ft x 2ft x 1ft and it’s holding a Lego bowser, seems fine to me but I’m not sure about your size!

Replying to @jaayjeee :
it will be 2ft wide, 2ft deep, 3ft tall. Roughly, still need to determine final dimensions but it will be around that size.

This is what I plan to display, with led lighting running the length of the columns.

I just came across this project looking for 3d printed displays. one question I have, are you able to mount both acrylic covers and LED lights or is it one or the other? also, one suggestion for the description is to list the common interior vs. exterior dimensions. thanks!

the spacer is 10mm thick as most LED strips are 10mm wide. most of my displays have one or the other, but as it’s modular, the spacers can be doubled up if you wanted to put both an LED strip and some acrylic

also just had a Quick Look and I’ve listed some standard dimensions in the description as well as what the extra pieces add. Is there anything I need to make it clearer? I am happy to change it if it’s confusing
