Description

The Problem:

I love Apple products and the iMac is great apart from the lack of height adjustment and no easy to access front USB so I set about addressing both issues. My wife and I both found the iMac too low so I managed to find a good height that worked well for us both.

The Design:

As you will see from picture above I went through many designs, some with a magnetic door on the front and a back plate but I struggled to get them to print well without supports. I started designing this nearly 2 years ago and I've been using versions of it for at least 20 months and they all work really well and are more than strong enough to hold the iMac when printed in ABS or PETG. I've been using it for so long I kind of forgot it was even there just like any good design should be its just functional and blends in so well with the iMac design.

I originally wanted to sell prints of this design but its quite a long print and I struggled to get a surface finish I was happy with (might have been an issue with my printer).

I wanted a design that was strong and stable so the iMac wouldn't wobble so it needed to be one piece and that I could print on the smallest print bed I had (Prusa Mini). Pleased to say I somehow managed to achieve my goal.

In the end I settled on a simplified design without the magnetic front door to make it easier to print.

If you decide to make it I'd be grateful for a donation as I easily spent over £100 in filament let alone all the R&D time. If you don't want to donate a Like and sharing your make and the design goes a long way too.

Features:

  • Front USB-C port and cable routing
  • Shelf for keyboard to rest on (and room underneath for Mouse and cables)
  • 4 rubber feet to keep it from moving
  • Slight lip on top so you can use the top for SD cards and bits

Required parts:

  • A USB-C Extension cable - Like this
  • 2 bolts to secure USB-C extension panel (I think they need M3 and length doesn't matter too much)
  • 4 x Rubber Dots for the underside of the base - Like this
