Description

Ever since I saw the Santa's Snowcat by Bambu lab I thought that would be great remoted controlled (I know they have a profile for this now (no instructions!) but that is a full on RC and this is just a basic forward and back, my son is 3 so just needed to be basic) and maybe not a snowcat. So I had the idea to tinker this for my son to play with and like the idea of making it into a tank.

So I mashed together the two designes linked as remixes (Thanks Bambu for allowing a remix this time of your design 😉) and came out with my design which I finally got to work after many redesigns and reprints.

I am still not the happiest with how the tank body prints with the amount of supports but apart from that it is a very easy print.

The Tank turret has two bits that glue into place:

  1. The Barrel, this is just so it prints nicer
  2. The connector this slots from under the tank body into the turret and glues into place to allow the turret to be rotated

Apart from that the construction is pretty simple:

  1. You have a rear/driving axel that slots through and then together after you have add in the gear (the same as the bambu model, just extended for the wider body)
  2. The free running front axel which slots through the front two holes (i add a guide on this and the rear axel to keep the wheels in place so they don't slide about)
  3. The two longer front wheels go behind the front axel and they have clips which swing over and put pressure on the front axel to tighten up the tracks after they are installed.
  4. Finally 6 normal wheels that clip into the remaining holes

Do note the clips on the wheels are very delecate (not my design) so might need to glue these as i have done multiple times (thank you PLA gloop!)

Then the tracks just clip together 5 on each side and then are held by the geared wheels and pressure, i am tempted to try and print these in TPU but that i will have to try later.

Then everything just clips together, feel free to remix this with other toppers rather than a tank the connection should be pretty easy.

Then comes the electronics I wanted to keep this simple as usual so I just connected all these components together (from ali express) and i will draw up a circuit diagram to make it easy to reproduce.

I used a DC-DC Boost Module this time as you can then adjust the voltage to the motor which I currently have outputting 6V, but this can be adjusted up or down depending how quick you want the motor to run.

Hope you enjoy making this if you choose to and feel free to reach out with any questions and improvements which I am happy to make, I have seen little improvements (e.g covering the motor on the base so it doesn't potentially get caught on the carpet) I would have liked to make but need to free my printer up for other projects so might come back to these at a later date.
